Using the New Volume Wizard, shown in Figure 3.8, click Next, click Simple, and then provide the volume's size and formatting details.
Right-click the unallocated space on the Dynamic disk where you want to create the simple volume and then click New Volume.
To create a simple volume, perform the following steps: It can consist of a single area on a disk or multiple areas on the same disk that are linked together. Simple VolumesĪ simple volume consists of disk space on a single physical disk. You must be an administrator or a member of the Administrators group to create, modify, or delete dynamic volumes. Windows XP Professional supports only simple, spanned, and striped dynamic volumes, shown in Figure 3.7. The five types of dynamic volumes are simple, spanned, mirrored, striped, and RAID-5.
Only computers running Windows XP Professional, Windows 2000, or Windows Server 2003 can access dynamic volumes. You cannot install Windows XP onto dynamic volumes that were created under Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Server 2003 from unallocated space.
